EUP Employment Seeks Applicants for Workforce Development Board

The EUP Employment and Training Consortium is seeking applicants interested in becoming a member of the local Workforce Development Board. This board administers workforce development programs in Chippewa, Luce, and Mackinac counties and is comprised of individuals who represent private business, education, social services, labor, community-based organizations, and other groups affecting workforce development in the area.

Through this private-public partnership, the board works with local elected officials to deliver programs in four essential areas: employment services, youth and adult training programs, career preparation, and welfare-to-work programs. Under the Michigan Works! System, employers and job seekers have access to resources that help them address their workforce development needs.

Several private sector seats will be appointed in December, with the terms expiring after two years. Nominees must have substantial management responsibility and be capable, in their own right, of making

decisions on behalf of their businesses. Local chambers of commerce must endorse private sector applications, which are forwarded to elected officials for consideration. Applications are also being sought for individuals representing education, organized labor, social services, and rehabilitation.

Individuals interested in this volunteer board are invited to contact the Michigan Works! office for an application form. Call (906) 635- 1752 or (800) 285-96757.
