Charlotte Mohr

Charlotte Mohr Charlotte Mohr Charlotte Mohr, 93, formerly of St. Ignace, passed away October 30, 2009, in Holt.

She was born in 1913 in Vilas, South Dakota.

Mrs. Mohr delighted in telling that she was the youngest of 14 children and so tall that her mother could stand under her outstretched arm.

She married Marvin Mohr in 1932. They began married life as South Dakota farmers. Then a serious drought and the Great Depression caused them to sell all of their possessions and to seek work elsewhere. They started their new life in St. Ignace in 1939, where their three children, Billy, Betty, and Carmen, grew up. Over the years, Mr. Mohr worked for the Krostue City Dairy, the Michigan State Ferries, and the Mackinac Bridge. Mrs. Mohr worked for Fair Market and Edison Sault Electric Company.

After retirement, they enjoyed spending winter months in Lake Worth, Florida, eventually moving there full-time. In 1994, they moved to Portland, Oregon, to be closer to their daughter, Betty.

After her husband passed away in 1997, Mrs. Mohr desired to get back to Michigan to be closer to "home," which was St. Ignace. She spent her final years in Holt, living near her son.

Mrs. Mohr is survived by two children and their families, Billy and Colleen Mohr of Holt, and Betty Brouillette of Portland, Oregon; five grandchildren and their families, Kim and Jim Lessard, Heather and Tom Luddy, Garrett and AnnMarie McLeod, Jason and Christine Schram, Tim and Christen Schram, and five great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Mohr was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; a daughter, Carmen, who died in 1950; and a grandson, Keith Mohr, who died in 1983.

Services will be in St. Ignace next summer. Burial will then be in St. Ignace Lakeside Cemetery.
