Applauds Integrity Shown by Marina Refund

To the Editor:

Integrity in city government may sound like an oxymoron but such is not the case in my recent interaction with your public servants. On September 24, I used the beautiful new launch ramp in St. Ignace. I filled out the required information and deposited the required $5 for legal launching and enjoyed a ride around Mackinac Island and the area with my wife. About two weeks later, I received a call from the City about the validity of my launch and if I was the one who had used the ramp. All checked out fine. The pleasant lady calling asked if I had realized that instead of putting in my $5 I actually had put in $50. Wow! After recovering from the shock of such a call, she asked how I would like the $45 returned. What a great example of small town integrity and a credit to some clerk who could have just as easily kept the money or at least shared it with a police officer who emptied the deposit pipe. Kudos for your honesty and although I don't know your name, may you accept my sincere thanks and may God and your boss give you a special blessing.
