Mike Mannisto is the new minister at St. James Lutheran Church. He was graduated from the Lutheran ministries in Minneapolis, Minnesota, this past spring, and joined our community Friday, October 23. He and his wife, Michele, are enjoying our small town by coming out to see the last varsity football game two weeks ago, and enjoying the local people and their generosity, they said. They lived in a big city for a couple of years, but both come from a small town. On his first day of service here, he was initiated by making pasties with others in the community. Mr. Mannisto is originally from the Houghton area.
Joyce Chadwick and her daughter, Marilyn, just got back from seeing Joyce’s son, Fred, in Missouri. Fred, who is a truck driver, just purchased a home and he wanted his family to come and see it.
On a sad note, Richard Kora, originally from Rudyard and formerly of Ovid, died Wednesday, October 28, after a year-long struggle with lung cancer. He was graduated from Rudyard High School and went on to be a teacher. He leaves behind his wife, Sally, son, Steve, daughter, Julie, and two brothers, Ken and Tom. He owned property on Ploegstra Road, where he had a cabin. By the time he was done with it, it turned into a home. In the last few years of his life, Mr. Kora came to Rudyard a lot to fix it up and to relax. Our hearts go out to the Kora family in their time of need.
