Senior Elisa Hobbs was selected Volleyball Player of Year by the coaches of the Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference Wednesday, November 11.

Joining Hobbs on the first team are Engadine teammate Kayla Miller, Ellen Rothier and Stephanie Lynn, both of Brimley, Justine Hatfield of Pickford, Jenna Arnold of Cedarville, and Kiah Barbeaux of DeTour.

Named to the second team is Jillian Collins of Cedarville, Callie Smith of Pickford, Nicole Melcer and Abby Stocking, both of DeTour, Jessica Graham of Brimley, and Kacie Rutledge of Engadine.

Players receiving honorable mention are Sydney Beaune of Brimley, Kristen Cline and Abbie Andrzejak, both of Pickford, Darci Wilson of DeTour, and Hope Wittmus of Cedarville.

All-Area Volleyball Team Forty players were named to The St. Ignace News All-Area Volleyball Team by sportswriter David Latva; 20 players are in their final year and 12 juniors and eight sophomores were selected to the 2009 squad.

Selected to the first team are seniors Elisa Hobbs and Kayla Miller, both of Engadine, Ellen Routhier of Brimley, Kali Jo Marshall and Dana Schieding, both of St. Ignace, Kiah Barbeaux of DeTour, and Emily Jeffreys of Rudyard. Juniors are Leah Wallis of Rudyard, Stephanie Lynn of Brimley, Justine Hatfield of Pickford, and Jenna Arnold of Cedarville.

Named to the second team are seniors Katy LaTour and Christi Therrian, both of St. Ignace, Jillian Collins of Cedarville, Nicole Melcer of DeTour, Jessica Graham of Brimley, and Callie Smith of Pickford. Also named to the second team are juniors Kacie Rutledge of Engadine, and sophomores Hunter Perry of Rudyard and Sydney Beaune of Brimley.

Special mention honors go to seniors Liz Schroeder of Rudyard, Holly Smith and Mallory La- Londe, both of St. Ignace, Abby Stocking of DeTour, Leah Blanchard and Lynzee Bigelow, both of Engadine, and Jane Finkel of Mackinac Island. Juniors Carissa Cowell of St. Ignace, Darci Wilson of DeTour, Hope Wittmus of Cedarville, Jessica Noyce of Brimley, and Morgan Brodeur-Bunker, Maggie Chambers, and Marie Bunker, all of Mackinac Island, earned special mention. Sophomores named are Morgan Zeeryp of Rudyard, Kristen Cline and Abbie Andrzejak, both of Pickford, Morgan MacArthur of Engadine, and Whitney Frazier of Brimley.

Leah Wallis of Rudyard received first team honors in the Straits Area Conference. Emily Jeffreys of Rudyard and Kali Jo Marshall and Dana Schieding, both of St. Ignace, were named to the second team.
