      Michigan Democrat Debbie Stabenow last year had the 11th most liberal voting record in the Senate – exceeding 80% – and was on the party leadership team that unveiled its health care package last week in the Democraticruled Senate.

St. Ignace
      The hunters are enjoying wonderful weather. The nights are cool enough to hang deer outside. Frank Davis of St. Ignace brought home a spikehorn on the opening day of deer season. He was hunting in Luce County. David Blair downed a spikehorn Tuesday, November 17, in Mackinac County.

Rexton-Garnet
      This week it may be easier to spot a turkey than a deer, as local hunters say the whitetail deer have been scarce this year. A few of those who filled their license were Don Frederick, Mike Kerridge, and Ken Browning. Howard Dauphin, a former Rexton resident, has taken up residency with his daughter and relocated to lower Michigan.

      The social season is upon us. Trinity Lutheran Church’s annual progressive dinner will be Saturday, December 12, at various homes. The Red Hat Society will meet Thursday, December 3, at 6 p.m. at Rosalie Robinson’s home in St. Ignace.

DeTour
      DeTour elementary students, teachers, and parent volunteers recently enjoyed an afternoon of ice skating at Big Bear Arena in Sault Ste. Marie. Many students had little skating experience and used support, but soon moved onto the ice independently. The group had such a good time that they plan to have another skating field trip next semester.

      State Senator Jason Allen visited our school last week. We had a “town hall” forum with students in grades kindergarten through 12. They asked him many questions about his job, the economy, and the state budget.

      It’s so nice to see the smiling faces of our college students who traveled home for the Thanksgiving weekend. It’s a time for parents and friends to catch up on all of the things that are going on in their lives and to enjoy each other’s company again for a few days. We hope they all have safe driving.
