It’s so nice to see the smiling faces of our college students who traveled home for the Thanksgiving weekend. It’s a time for parents and friends to catch up on all of the things that are going on in their lives and to enjoy each other’s company again for a few days. We hope they all have safe driving. The many times that our children drove home from Albion College, they either had snow and wet roads coming from or returning to campus, but they always made it safely.

Deer hunters have been out all week, however, we hear that the hunting has not been up to expectations. The only hunter to my knowledge who was successful was “big” Dale Dunn. Con-gratulations to him and any other hunter who was fortunate enough to bag a buck.

Everyone is gearing up for the old-fashioned Christmas that will take place during the next two weekends. Most of the local businesses will have special activities going on. The preschool craft show at the school Saturday, tree lightings, the museum open house and Christmas tree silent auction, a story hour at the library, and many other things will be happening. This issue of The St. Ignace News includes a list of activities.

Cookies are needed for the community Christmas party Sunday, December 6, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Community Center. The cookies may be delivered Saturday, December 5, between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. or Sunday, December 6, between 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Gingerbread houses will be on display at the Les Cheneaux Community Library in Cedarville during its regular hours Tuesday, December 1, through Saturday, December 5.

The Les Cheneaux Middle School had fun performing, plus taking part in other ways to make their play a success last Friday evening. The production was entitled “Nightmare High.” This was a dinner theater. What a wonderful experience theater is for so many young people in our community. The play was directed by Lisa Dunn and consisted of a large cast and stage crew.

The Neighborhood Watch organization has issued a pamphlet listing tips for keeping your child safe. For more information, call Rose Miller at 484-2519 or Loren Dingman at 484-2293.

Have a happy and safe Thanksgiving.
