The hunters are enjoying wonderful weather. The nights are cool enough to hang deer outside.

Frank Davis of St. Ignace brought home a spikehorn on the opening day of deer season. He was hunting in Luce County.

David Blair downed a spikehorn Tuesday, November 17, in Mackinac County.

St. Ignace Librarian Cindy Patten announces that the fifth through eighth grade Kids Book Club meets once a month. The next meeting will be Wednesday, December 2, at 5 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

Mabel Pechta, a lifetime resident of Moran, will spend the winter months with her daughter, Shirley Coleman, in Mystic, Connecticut.

Gene Prevo of Pontiac spent a few days hunting in the Upper Peninsula. He has been visiting this area since 1960.

The Mackinac County Children’s Toy Drive pancake breakfast will be Sunday, December 6, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Mackinac Grille restaurant in St. Ignace. Cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children younger than 10. New toys for needy children at Christmas will be accepted.

The annual Christmas Musicale will be Sunday, December 6, at 7 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in St. Ignace.

In speaking with Rosemary Irwin, I found out her mother, Louise Lowetz, is doing well at 92 years old. Their home on White Birch Road, off Brevort Lake Road, was shipped by railroad in 1925 from Sears and Roebuck Company, Rosemary says. Prior to that time, the family lived in a log home down the road. Rosemary also said her grandfather, William J. Lipnitz, had written a book, “History of Moran,” dated 1934-1936.

Kim Welch is enjoying working in the kitchen at Gros Cap School while Blanche Thomas takes some time off for medical care. We wish Blanche a speedy recovery.
