Artisans selling handmade soaps, maple syrup products, handmade baskets, and more will set up shop for a bazaar at Les Cheneaux Community Schools in Cedarville Saturday, November 28, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Holiday Bazaar is hosted by the Les Cheneaux Preschool and is its major fundraiser. The bazaar draws craftsmen from Cedarville and Hessel and from Pickford, Drummond Island, Sault Ste. Marie, and St. Ignace. This year the bazaar has more than 40 registrants.

Preschool parents will prepare about 1,000 cookies to be sold during the bazaar. Each parent bakes 12 dozen of the snacks, said Amy Kohlmann, vice president of the Les Cheneaux Preschool Board, and the sale is so popular some visitors drop by solely for a plate of cookies. A plate of one dozen cookies costs $3.50. Soups, pizza, and hot dogs will also be sold.

Bundles of goods will be raffled off containing items and products donated by local businesses. Raffle tickets cost $1 each.

The Holiday Bazaar has been conducted for more than 30 years, Mrs. Kohlmann said, and began with the First Union Church. The preschool later picked it up, and held it at the community center. The bazaar became so large that some vendors had to be turned away because of lack of space, she said. The event was finally moved to the school, providing the needed space.
