The Les Cheneaux Cub Scout pack has had a busy month. The Scouts worked so hard on their popcorn fund drive that they were treated to a pool party Saturday, November 14, as a thank you for their hard work. Approximately 100 boys from the Eastern Upper Peninsula enjoyed a day of swimming, followed by pizza, at the Rudyard School.

At the monthly meeting, they had an old-fashioned turkey shoot, using turkeys made from paper bags and rubber-band guns. This is one of the largest Cub Scout packs in the Eastern Upper Peninsula with 30 registered scouts. It enjoys support from the Les Cheneaux Lions Club, the Cubs’ charter organization, and parents and community.

Last Saturday, the Goodell family hosted a den meeting for second and third grade Wolf and Bear Cubs, who made birdhouses using Harry Harris’ pattern. Hundreds of Mr. Harris’ birdhouses can be found around the Les Cheneaux Islands.

Her classes meet Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 8 a.m. They also meet Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 5:30 p.m. There is no charge for these sessions and everyone is welcome.

It was a busy “after Thanksgiving” weekend with many open houses here. Both retail and community organizations reported a lot of people passing through their doors. The trees at the museum were all nicely trimmed, lit, and displayed, along with a beautiful Santa Claus display. The gingerbread houses at the library are just beginning to come in and by now there are many to see.
