Food To Be Distributed in Eastern U.P. Next Week
Commodities food will be distributed in the Eastern Upper Peninsula Wednesday, December 9, through Friday, December 11. Food to be distributed includes apple juice, beans, blueberries, whole chicken, cranapple juice, flour mix, grits, macaroni, shelf stable milk, orange juice, peaches, peanut butter, pears, and peas. Persons receiving commodities must present a yellow food card. Food will be distributed on a first come, first served basis.
Distribution is from 9 a.m. until noon, unless otherwise noted. Many centers will not remain open once the food is gone. Check with local centers in case of a schedule change.

Wednesday, December 9
Drummond Island Township Hall, 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Families who have not been recertified to receive the food or persons applying for the first time may apply or be re-certified at any Community Action office in Chippewa, Mackinac, or Luce counties. Applicants must provide proof of total household income, as well as Social Security numbers for all household members and proof of residency.
Eligibility is based on annual income. The limit for a single person younger than age 60 is $14,079. For each additional person younger than 60 in the home, add $4,862 to find the maximum allowable income. A single person 60 or older may receive up to $17,328 per year and remain eligible. For each additional person 60 or older in the home, add $5,984 to find the maximum allowable income. Commodities cards that are issued to senior citizens or handicapped persons will be specially marked so that a friend or relative may pick up the food.
