Therrian, Mortensen Are LaSalle’s Students of the Month

Christi Therrian Christi Therrian Christi Therrian and Gerrit Mortensen have been named Students of the Month for November at LaSalle High School.

Christi Therrian

Senior Christi Therrian is the daughter of Jeff and Sandy Therrian of St. Ignace. Miss Therrian is involved in Student Council, volleyball, track, dance, and the mentor program, in which she is mentoring a second grade student. She also has a work experience assignment in the hospital.

She has a 3.841 grade point average based on a four-point scale. Throughout high school, she has taken a college preparatory curriculum. Her current academic schedule includes Honors English, anatomy, calculus, and senior social studies. Her favorite classes have been anatomy and history.

“All of my teachers have taught me or influenced me in one way or another. I feel, however, that Onnalee Gibson has been my most influential teacher because I learn and remember the most from her class,” Miss Therrian said.

Gerrit Mortensen Gerrit Mortensen She has been a class leader and has earned various classroom awards, including in biology and accounting. She is class president and a member of the National Honor Society.

She currently has logged 153 hours of community service, including time helping with the Red Cross blood drive, helping at the ice rink, and serving as a 4-H junior counselor.

She was selected as the most improved player on the volleyball team and earned a coach’s award on the track team. She was selected to be captain of the volleyball team.

She plans to go to college, either at Central Michigan University or Saginaw Valley State University. She is interested in the medical field.

Gerrit Mortensen Gerrit Mortensen, a senior, is the son of Matt and Pam Mortensen. He has a 3.793 grade point average based on a four-point scale. Mr. Mortensen has taken a college preparatory curriculum. His schedule includes Honors English, physics, anatomy, functions statistics and trigonometry, advanced physical education, senior social studies, and physics. He helps Emily Fullerton as an aide in her physical education class. His favorite subject is mathematics.

He has excelled in the classroom, earning various classroom awards including chemistry, civics, and economics.

He has varsity letters in track, baseball, football, and basketball. Athletic honors include selection to the all conference and All-UP teams in football and basketball. Last year he was awarded the David Frazier Workhorse award. He is the captain of both the football team and the basketball team.

As a member of the National Honor Society, he spent time helping with the Red Cross Blood Drive and the Halloween community food drive.

He did not name a most influential teacher, but said all of his teachers have influenced him in school.

He helps to coach Junior Saints basketball teams. He likes music and enjoys playing golf.

His goal is to attend college next fall to study physical therapy or sports medicine. In addition, he hopes to play football or basketball while in college.
