Evelyn Anguilm

Evelyn Anguilm Evelyn Anguilm Evelyn Marie Anguilm, 98, passed away Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at the Eastwood Nursing Center in Negaunee.

She was born October 17, 1911, in Gould City to Clem and Mary Rose.

Mrs. Anguilm was the youngest of five sisters and two brothers. She attended the St. Ignatius convent high school in St. Ignace, and began her working career with her sisters at the Depot Restaurant in Trout Lake.

She married John A. Anguilm May 21, 1934. For much of her life, Mrs. Anguilm was a homemaker, who also worked for a time at Montgomery Wards and J.C. Penney in Marquette.

She enjoyed dancing, especially square dancing with her friends from the Department of Natural Resources. She was known for her great cooking and her challenging pinochle and canasta games, friends said, and many will remember her for her compassionate and thoughtful ways.

She was an active member of the Trout Lake Women’s Club and is a member of the St. Louis the King Catholic Church in Harvey.

Mrs. Anguilm is survived by four daughters and their families, EvAnn and Glenn Johnson of Marquette, Sally Benoit of Algonquin, Illinois, Patricia Day of Marquette, and Mary and Carl Spessard of Watervliet; 12 grandchildren and their families, Terri and Barry Worthington, Sherri and Mark Pavloski, John and Kris Benoit, Linda Day, Mary Jo and Clifton DuVall, Keith and Stacy Day, Clifford and Teres Benoit, David and Michelle Benoit, Steve and Kristy Spessard, Patrick Day, Greg and Jodi Johnson, and Jamie and Peter Rossow; 28 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John II; her son, John III; a son-in-law, Richard Benoit, and seven siblings.

Services were at St. Louis the King Catholic Church in Harvey, Monday, December 7, at 10:30 a.m. with Father Ben Paris and Monsignor Peter Oberto officiating. Friends called at the church beginning at 10 a.m. Monday. A reception was held in Father Gauthier Hall following services. Burial will be in Trout Lake Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Mr. and Mrs. John Anguilm Scholarship Fund, a college scholarship fund to benefit Trout Lake students graduating from Rudyard High School, c/o Trout Lake Women’s Club, Trout Lake, Michigan 49793.

Swanson Funeral Home in Marquette assisted the family with arrangements.
