Robert Cataline

Robert Cataline Robert Cataline Robert A. Cataline, 71, of St. Martins Point, Hessel, passed away early Saturday, December 5, 2009, at Northern Michigan Regional Hospital in Petoskey, after an 11- year illness of cancer.

He was born August 6, 1938, in Lansing, to Acial and Sadie (nee Trimble) Cataline.

He married Shirley Eiche June 30, 1962, in Holt.

Mr. Cataline served in both the Vietnam War and Gulf War, and retired from the U.S. Marine Corps in November 1982. He retired from the Marine Corps as a Master Sergeant with 24 years of service from Allentown, Pennsylvania. Since then he had been a crosscountry truck driver, traveling nearly every state in the union. He retired November 2, 1998, when he was diagnosed with cancer.

The family has lived at St. Martins Point since 1982. He loved sailing and wood carving. He also loved to watch his grandson play hockey, and enjoyed the Detroit Red Wings. He was a mascot for the Cedarville Trojans. Mr. Cataline was honored recently by the Cedarville team for his loyalty. He was a member of Hessel Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Cataline is survived by his wife; two daughters and their families, Janelle and Marty Bester of St. Martins Point and Michelle Cataline of St. Ignace; two granddaughters, Jana-Leigh and Sabrina Lynn; one grandson, Gage; one great-granddaughter, Tristen; two nieces, Julie Taylor and Marjorie Taylor, and one nephew, James Taylor.

He was preceded in death by his mother in 1978; his father in 1983; a sister, Beth Taylor, in 1997; a brother in-law, Brooks Taylor, in 1980, and a nephew, Mark Taylor, in 2007.

Visitation will be Wednesday, December 9, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Dodson Funeral Home in St. Ignace, with a military service at 7 p.m. under the direction of the St. Ignace American Legion Post. A memorial will be Thursday, December 10, at 11 a.m. at Hessel Presbyterian Church with Pastor Judy Arnold officiating.
