Wiley Is Employee of the Month for November

Petty Officer Benjamin Wiley Petty Officer Benjamin Wiley Third Class Petty Officer Benjamin Wiley, an electrician mate, was named November Employee of the Month for United States Coast Guard Station St. Ignace.

Petty Officer Wiley took over as the Acting Aids to Navigation Petty Officer for 10 days. While acting as the Aids to Navigation Petty Officer, he serviced New Shoal Lighted Buoy for the Coast Guard cutter Mackinaw, which was scheduled for maintenance and repair. In addition, he serviced six navigational discrepancies during October and performed 17 scheduled inspections on Aids to Navigation.

He researched and installed new breakers and wiring for the new galley freezer, greatly improving the galley’s function, his supervisors reported. He also helped his shipmates by troubleshooting their vehicle problems during his free time, they noted.

He joined the United States Coast Guard in May 2003 in Savannah, Georgia, and attended basic training in Cape May, New Jersey, in May 2004. After completing basic training, he reported to Charleston, South Carolina, on the USCG Cutter Gallatin. He attended school in Yorktown, Virginia, to become an electrician mate in January 2007, and was stationed here in St. Ignace in June 2007.

He is married to Tamar Wiley of St. Ignace, and has a step-daughter, Bailey Ryerse.
