Saints V-ball Teams Honored at Awards Night

Players received awards during a ceremony Monday, November 30. The St. Ignace Saints varsity and junior varsity teams were honored during award ceremonies at LaSalle High School Monday, November 30.

Varsity coach Gracia Marshall presented awards to the district champion Saints.

Most Valuable Players: Seniors Kali Jo Marshall and Dana Schieding received this honor for their effort this season.

Marshall, named to the Straits Area Conference (SAC) and The St. Ignace News All-Area teams, recorded 749 assists, 165 attacks, 106 digs, 65 aces, 55 kills, and 50 blocks. Schieding, who was named to the All-SAC and All-Area squads, registered 659 good passes, 157 attacks, 129 digs, 64 kills, and 48 aces and assists.

Most Improved Player: Senior Amanda Dixon, in her first year on the volleyball court, received the MIP with 38 good passes and three attacks and digs.

Coach’s Awards: Seniors Katy LaTour, Christi Therrian, and Holly Smith. LaTour was named to the All-Area team charted 150 attacks, 128 kills, 79 blocks, and 31 assists; Therrian All-Area selection, tallied 235 attacks, 124 kills, 95 blocks, and 17 assists; Smith received All-Area, contributed 466 assists, 47 attacks, 29 blocks, 25 aces, 19 kills, and 15 digs.

Spirit Award: Carissa Cowell, named to the All-Area team, chipped in 528 assists, 27 digs, and 22 aces.

Remaining members of the team and their statistics include Mallory LaLonde, All-Area with 40 aces and 29 digs; Lauren Winkelman, 68 digs, 51 attacks, 39 aces, 24 blocks and kills; Anna St. Andrew, 72 digs, 39 aces and kills, and 10 blocks; Amber St. Andrew, 25 digs and 18 aces; Martina Beaudoin, 17 digs, 14 aces, 17 attacks, and 11 assists.

Junior varsity coach Mandy Scott presented the Most Improved Award to Rachel Shampine and Spirit Awards to Kayla Fulgenzi and Brooklyn Chambers.
