Saints, Panthers Post Conference Victories in Girls Openers
The Saints’ Kristen Olsen (24) scored a career high 21 points to lead St. Ignace over Rudyard in the Straits Area Conference opener Thursday, December 10.
The St. Ignace Saints opened their Straits Area Conference schedule with a 66-22 win over the Rudyard Bulldogs at LaSalle High School Thursday, December 10.
The Saints offense was led by Kristen Olsen with career high 21 points and Mallory LaLonde with 17 points and combined for eight threepoint field goals. The St. Ignace defense held the Bulldogs scoreless until the 5:31 mark of the second quarter.
St. Ignace, 3-1 on the season, led 31-0 after the first eight minutes and held a 51-7-halftime advantage before both teams scored 15 points in the running-clock second half, which is used in games with a 35-point lead.

Balanced Offense Lifts
Panthers Over Trojans
Nine players scored for the Pickford Panthers during a 66-43 Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference (EUPC) win over the Cedarville Trojans at the John Duncan Gymnasium in Cedarville Friday, December 11.
"I was pleased with our balanced offense," said Panthers Coach Paul Griffin.
The Panthers, 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the EUPC, led 18-12 after the first eight minutes and increased the margin to 39-28 at halftime after outscoring the Trojans 21-16 in the second quarter.
Pickford extended their lead to 56-35 after three quarters with a 16- 7 advantage and completed the game with a 10-8-scoring edge in the final eight minutes.

Bays Down Eagles
in EUPC Overtime
The Engadine Eagles trailed by 17 points and fought back to send the game into overtime tied at 40 before the visiting Brimley Bays held a 9-3 margin in the extra four minutes to post a 49-43 Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference win Friday, December 11.
The Bays held an 11-9 scoring edge after the first eight minutes and outscored the Eagles 12-2 in the second quarter for a 23-11 halftime lead.
The Eagles outscored the Bays 29-17 in the second half that included an 11-8 advantage
in the third quarter and 18-9 in the final eight minutes to send the game into overtime.

Over Rockets
The Engadine Eagles held the host Rapid River Rockets to eight first half points en route to a 54-30 non-conference win Tuesday, December 8.
The Eagles led 8-4 after the first eight minutes and 26-8 at halftime before holding a 28-22 scoring edge in the second half. The one negative factor for the Eagles was making just four of 21 from the free throw line.
