Brevort
Larry First called on Dave this morning to share some photographs from the game camera set up at his hunting area. The photographs showed very distinctive claw marks on a buck’s neck and flank, plus the left eye was injured, testament to the travails our deer herd faces.
Bob and Ellen Berry called off their cross-country skiing trip downstate owing to problems from a back injury Bob suffered last summer. Kevin Berry of Houston, Texas, is spending the Christmas holiday in Brevort with his parents, Bob and Ellen. Ellen picked up Kevin in Detroit and then enjoyed a Detroit Lions game with other family members Sunday, December 20.
Dottie Glashaw, Pega Kennedy, Joyce Gustafson, and Sharon Chalmers were in Cheboygan Thursday, December 17.
Dave and I visited with Jean Garries in Petoskey Thursday afternoon, December 17.
Jerri Rose, Pega Kennedy, and Dot Glashaw joined the Red Hat Society in St. Ignace to wrap Christmas gifts for a family the group sponsored.
Young men of Brevort include (from left) John Gustafson, Carl Gustafson, and Archie Johnson. John is the son of Leander and Eva Gustafson, and Carl is the son of Charles and Ida Gustafson. Archie is a cousin of Charles. The photograph was taken between 1906 and 1910.
Condolences to the family of Rose McGregor of St. Ignace, who passed away Monday, December 14. Pega Kennedy attended the service at Zion Lutheran Church in St. Ignace and visited with Gary Nichols, a nephew of Rose McGregor. Gary lives in Nashville, Michigan, as does Del Nichols.
Trinity Lutheran Church adopted a family to help at Christmas this year. The first box of groceries and gifts were delivered Sunday afternoon, December 20, by Sharon Chalmers, Joyce Gustafson, and Dot Glashaw.
Kathy Reid is done working for the season and is feeding the birds and watching the deer help themselves to the bird feed.
Coyotes have made off with those egg-laying hens at the Rogers farm this week.
Mark Spencer claims to have bagged the biggest deer (the only deer) in Brevort, a two-point with both points on one antler.
While walking on the beach, Tracy Movalson and our neighbor, Lee Foster, spotted a coyote watching them very closely. It then went off into the woods.
Please keep Billy Milford in your thoughts and prayers as he awaits medical test results. Clark Smith is also undergoing medical tests.
Gio Giordani shared some interesting family history with me. Betty Giordani has a twin sister, Beckey. Betty’s birthday is December 25, and Beckey’s is December 26, because these twins were born near midnight, 15 minutes apart. Gio’s brother, Ralph, married a girl named Betty, so there are two Betty Giordanis in the family.
Happy birthday to Jamie Rogers December 24, Mary Ann First December 28, and Mike Shepard December 31.
Happy anniversary to Michael and Helena Shepard December 21 and Jack and Thora Shepard December 24.
The Christmas Eve candlelight service will be Thursday, December 24, at 5 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brevort. Everyone is welcome.
