Rose Marie McGregor, 91, of St. Ignace, died Monday morning, December 14, 2009, at Mackinac Straits Hospital, following a lingering illness.
She was born February 10, 1918, in Monroe, Wisconsin.
Mrs. McGregor was one of five children born to Jacob Otto I and Clara (nee Steiner) Weiss. The family came to Allenville in 1932, where they farmed in the area.
She was a life member of Zion Lutheran Church in St. Ignace and the Lutheran Church Women.
Mrs. McGregor was an avid bridge player. She loved to play poker, teaching her grandchildren to play, and telling them the game is a good way to learn to count. She also was an avid golfer.
She married Junior McGregor September 8, 1944, when he was in the service. Together they owned McGregor Oil Company in St. Ignace for many years.
Mrs. McGregor is survived by a daughter and her family, Jackie and Dan Skatzka of South Lyon; a son and his family, James Guy and Crystal McGregor of Jacksonville, Florida; a sister and her family, Hilda and Herb Mann of Wausau, Indiana; a sister-in-law, Violet Gustafson, of St. Ignace; six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, who died February 10, 1989, she was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Clara Langdon, Ida Nickel, Verena Wartella, and Jacob Otto Weiss II. She also was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Rose Ellen Weiss.
Services were Friday, December 18, at 1 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in St. Ignace with Pastor George Kaiser officiating.
Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in the spring.
Pallbearers were Ron Dahms, Ken Mills, Mike Skatzka, Dennis Skatzka, Seth McGregor, Adam McGregor, and Devin Skatzka.
Dodson Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
