Sharon Smith

Sharon Smith Sharon Smith Sharon Ann (nee Simmons) Smith, 71, of Cedarville, died Friday morning, December 18, 2009, at Mackinac Straits Hospital.

She was born October 10, 1938, in Sault Ste. Marie to Theodore and Madelean (nee McKay) Simmons.

She grew up in Cedarville and was graduated from Cedarville High School. She was a member of the First Union Church, where she taught Sunday School for several years. She was a member of the Antique and Classic Boat Society, the Les Cheneaux Advisory Committee, and was cochair of the Les Cheneaux Wooden Boat Show for 22 years. She was one of the founding members of the Trojan Booster Club.

Mrs. Smith worked for 25 years at Cedarville High School, from which she retired.

She is survived by her husband, Robert W. Smith of Cedarville; one son and his family, Fred and Kerri Smith of Hessel; two daughters and their families, Sue Ann and Jason Bowlby of Cedarville, and Deborah and Mike Murray of Palestine, Texas; two grandchildren, Katie Sue Bowlby and Theodore G. Bowlby of Cedarville; one sister and her family, Barbara and Robert Smith of Cedarville; and two aunts, Isable Simmons of Lansing and Mildred Bailey of Sault Ste. Marie.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her first husband, Fred Slater.

Visitation was Tuesday, December 22, from noon to 3 p.m. at First Union Church. Services followed the visitation with the Reverend Jeffrey Meyers officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Cedar Cemetery in Cedarville.

Pallbearers were John Duncan, David Duncan, Luke Jaroche, Andrew Jaroche, Aaron Clark, Jeff Rogers, Howard Daneklasen, and John Tobin. Honorary pallbearers were Marvin Tassier, Jim Hamlin, Jan Hamlin, Gene Collins, and Kurt Duncan.

Dodson Funeral Home in St. Ignace assisted the family with arrangements.
