I read the excellent article by David Latva about Barry Pierson's role with the University of Michigan [The St. Ignace News, November 19]. Among the many fans who attended this game, my Western Michigan University roommate, Chico Belonga, and myself made the 100-mile trip to Ann Arbor for the game of a lifetime. Needless to say, it was very exciting watching our hometown schoolmate play so well and lead the Wolverines to the Rose Bowl.

Among the accolades he received for this game, he was recognized by Sports Illustrated as the college player of the week.
