State Representative Gary Mc- Dowell was recognized Monday, December 7, for his work to fund treatment services for northern Michigan residents addicted to opiates.

In receiving a resolution of appreciation from Northern Michigan Substance Abuse Services, Mr. McDowell said, “Residents of Northern Michigan are at a huge disadvantage because of the lack of access to treatment programs in our area.”

He has worked to fund a specialty treatment program for residents of northern Michigan, the resolution noted, although the effort to bring the program to fruition must continue, following the state’s failure to fund it this year.

The service coordinates substance use disorder treatment and prevention services in 30 counties in lower Michigan.
