School resumed from the Christmas break Monday, January 4.

Attorney Tom Evashevski has gone into private practice and opened an office at 838 North State Street in Ignace. He is a general practice attorney and will continue as attorney for the City of Mackinac Island and Village of Mackinaw City. He has been with the St. Ignace law firm Brown and Brown for 30 years.

Sharing the building, but in independent practice, will be his cousin, Prentiss "Giz" Brown III of St. Ignace. Also a general practice attorney, Mr. Brown is relocating his office from Ferry Lane.

The two attorneys will maintain separate practices with no organizational affiliation.

Jason Huyck, a 2001 graduate of LaSalle High School and a resident of Grand Rapids, enjoyed spending a few days in St. Ignace. While here he visited friends and his parents, Jim and Lois Huyck.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mickey and Tracy Campbell, who reside in Mackinaw City. Mickey remembers growing up in St. Ignace very well, and recalls when Sunset Ridge Trailer Park, owned by Jim and Hazel Campbell, was located where Glen’s Markets is now. In the 1970s the trailer park was sold to Warren and Eleanor Christianson. In the store that’s now Weber’s Floral was a busy grocery store owned by Claude and Emma Brown, known as Brown’s Grocery. Many in town will recall those days.

Best wishes to Ray and Marvel Walker, who will celebrate their wedding anniversary January 7.

Best wishes also to Ernest and Peg Jarman, who will celebrate their wedding anniversary January 11.
