Ferry Presses Through as Ice Builds

The Huron arrives at St. Ignace early Monday, January 4, its bow coated with a layer of ice. Most of the ice that had built up over the weekend moved away from the shoreline as winds shifted. Boat operations will continue on a day-to-day basis between St. Ignace and Mackinac Island until ice becomes too thick for the steel-hulled ferry. Arnold Transit will operate the boat daily except Sunday, with three trips each way. Great Lakes Air also provides transportation between Mackinac Island and St. Ignace.
