City Recycling Dates Remain the Same for 2010
Curbside recycling pick-up in St. Ignace will continue Tuesdays, primarily during the second and fourth full week of each month, despite recent communication sent to residents reporting otherwise.
Some St. Ignace residents received one or more pieces of mail from the city's waste and recycling provider, Waste Management, during December. These brochures assigned customers a color based on their address -- blue, gold, red, or pink -- which reportedly determined which week of each month was scheduled for recycling service for that address.
Sending these notices to residents was an error, said deputy city clerk Andrea Insley.
The actual 2010 dates for recycling pick-up for all St. Ignace residents, all Tuesdays, are as follows: January 12, January 26, February 9, February 23, March 9, March 23, April 13, April 27, May 11, May 25, June 15, June 29, July 13, July 27, August 10, August 24, September 14, September 28, October 12, October 26, November 9, November 23, December 7, and December 21.
The city's contract with Waste Management will expire February 1 and city officials are seeking bids from all area waste haulers for the contract. The St. Ignace Solid Waste Committee will meet at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, January 7, to discuss proposals from companies for the trash and recycling contract,
