Casino Donates to St. Ignace Pond Hockey Entertainment
In view of Moran Bay, where the fourth annual Labatt's U.P. Pond Hockey Championship will soon be held, a donation of $7,000 was given from Kewadin Casino to pond hockey organizers Wednesday, January 6. The funds will be used to bring the Detroit Red Wings Alumni Team to St. Ignace to play at Little Bear East Arena Friday, February 19. Championship hockey play on the bay will be from February 19 through Sunday, February 21. Since 2007, the casino has donated more than $19,000 for a special event during the weekend hockey competition. "I just think it adds a whole other night of entertainment" to the event, said organizer Mark Sposito of St. Ignace (second right). This year, 20 rinks will be set up in Moran Bay for a maximum of 160 teams. About 100 volunteers are helping in a wide variety of jobs and many more are needed, said Mr. Sposito. Those interested may call 643-8717 or 643-6950.
