(Photograph courtesy of Margie Denoyer) The Les Cheneaux Snowmobile Club offered a snowmobile safety class at the clubhouse on Blindline Road in Cedarville Saturday, December 19, for riders ages 11 to 17 years. The objective of the class was to teach the students how to ride a snowmobile safely. Attending were 52 youth and one adult from Cedarville, Hessel, Gould City, St. Ignace, Rudyard, Moran, DeTour Village, Drummond Island, Goetzville, Sault Ste. Marie, and Brimley.

Frank Harness, a certified snowmobile safety Instructor, organized and led the day-long class at the clubhouse. Also participating as teachers were Mackinac County Sheriff Department staff, officer Tom Sherlund, and conservation officers Gerald Thayer and Kevin Postma. Others participating in the teaching session included club members John Griffin and Geri Griffin. Stuart Volkers, snowmobile mechanic and current president of the Les Cheneaux Snowmobile Club, spoke on mechanical aspects of snowmobiles.

The course also taught the participants etiquette on the trails. After passing a graded examination, the participants received patches and certificates that allow them to ride trails and to cross roads and streets.

Lunch and snacks were provided by several area businesses.
