Arts Dockside Committee Steps Down
To the Editor:

For the past 32 years the Arts Dockside committee has taken very seriously the charge to provide a first rate, high quality Labor Day weekend event that benefits the entire St. Ignace community.

The current Arts Dockside committee consists of original volunteers from the very first year and others with 22 years, 15 years, and 10 years experience, along with some more recently willing to make a huge time commitment and sacrifice their Labor Day weekend. Naturally a committee of such long standing would see changes over the years, and we have mourned the loss of Diane Goudreau Fraser, her daughter, Kathy Goudreau Orr, and Shelley Fitzpatrick, but decided with the collaborative partnership of the Chamber of Commerce and the City to carry on this worthwhile event.

Unfortunately, sometimes, good things do come to an end, and this is the case with the current Arts Dockside committee. Due to irreconcilable differences between this committee and marina management, the existing Arts Dockside committee has chosen to resign. This decision is motivated by both personal and political reasons, especially the decision to open the marina parking area to motorized vehicles, which we see as a multi-faceted issue we are not willing to be involved with or take any responsibility for.

We hope that Arts Dockside will continue to be a priority in St. Ignace. The continued success of Arts Dockside would not have been possible without the commitment, sacrifices, and cooperation of the entire St. Ignace community. Thank you all for your contributions.
