Lifts Trojans Over Vikings

Kharizma Labinski made one free throw with no time on the clock to lift the Cedarville Trojans to a 52-51 home non-conference win over the Posen Vikings at John Duncan Gymnasium in Cedarville Wednesday, January 6.

Labinski was fouled as time expired and in a double bonus situation, the junior made the first throw to ice the win for the Trojans.

"Kharizma played her best game of the year and is capable of doing this on a regular basis," said Trojans Coach Sonja Duncan. "Everyone played well and contributed to the win."

Cedarville lost to the Vikings December 9, but this time around the Trojans raced out to a 21-10 lead after the first eight minutes before Posen held a 15-14 scoring edge in the second quarter for a 35-25-halftime advantage.

The Vikings sliced the Cedarville lead to 45-40 after three quarters with a 15-10 margin and outscored the Trojans 11-6 in the final 7:59 to the tie score before the winning free throw.

Trojans statistics: Kharizma Labinski, 16 points; Jillian Collins, 10 points, nine steals, seven assists; Chelsea Grove, nine points, 10 rebounds, five steals; Hope Wittmus, six points, 13 rebounds; Holly Jaroche, six points; Mary Eberts, five points.

Panthers Down Indians

In Non-League Contest

The Pickford Panthers improved to 4-3 on the season after a 43-37 road win over the Newberry Indians Monday, January 4.

The Panthers didn't have a player in double figure scoring, but seven players scored for Coach Paul Griffin.

"We are playing good team basketball," said Griffin.

Pickford led 12-8 after the first eight minutes before Newberry sent the game into halftime tied at 20 with a 12-8 offensive margin.

The Panthers opened up a 35- 26 lead with a 15-6 advantage in the third quarter and the Indians completed the contest with an 11- 8-scoring edge in the final eight minutes.

Panthers statistics: Callie Smith and Kristen Cline, nine points; Jenna Ledy, eight points; Amanda Felty, six points; Justine Hatfield and Abbie Andrzejak, four points; Olivia Smith, three points.

The Panthers girls and boys games at Lincoln-Alcona have been rescheduled from Saturday, January 9, to Saturday, January 23.
