Hello, everyone. The annual Curtis Winter Carnival will be Saturday, February 13. Enjoy many fun events on the ice, including dog sled rides, chili cook-off, Curtis fish coop, music, food, children's games, cookie walk, turkey bowling, youth mini sled challenge, and snow sculptures. It's sure to be a great time for the whole family.

Former Engadine and Newberry resident, Hazel Meyer, 89, of Burton, passed away Thursday, January 14. Services will be held in the spring at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Engadine. Please keep her family in your thoughts and prayers.

Jessica Creighton, 27, passed away Friday, January 15, at her home in Holland, Michigan, after a short illness of leukemia. The daughter of James and Catherine Creighton, she was a graduate of Manistique High School, Class of 2000. Please keep her family in your prayers during this difficult time.

The Special Olympics Snowmobile Run and Eastern Upper Peninsula Winter Games will be Thursday, January 21, at 3 p.m. at the Eagles Club east of Newberry. The event is hosted by the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Newberry. The Hulbert Haulers, who support the EUP Special Olympics, will be in attendance to cheer on and give snowmobile rides to the athletes. Dinner will follow at 5 p.m. at the Eagles Club. Everyone is welcome.

The Great Lakes Sled Dog Association Race will be Saturday, January 23, and Sunday, January 24, at the Luce County Airport on M-28, east of Newberry. The races start Saturday at 10 a.m. and Sunday at 9 a.m. Both races will run until about 3 p.m. For more information, call the Newberry Area Chamber of Commerce at (906) 293-5562.
