Les Cheneaux

Warmer weather has been welcome after the bitter cold that we’ve been enduring. We hope colder weather comes in time for the blizzard races scheduled for the end of the month.

The Les Cheneaux Quilters were busy just before Christmas making hats, mittens, and scarves for local children. This group completed 65 pairs of mittens, 30 hats, and two scarves. They were divided before the holidays between the Christmas tree at Cedarville Foods and the school.

The quilters are making a quilt that will be raffled off among the members who have worked on it. Each year one quilt is made for this purpose. This year the pattern of the quilt is entitled “Old Maid’s Patch.” The club buys the background material and members gather their own patches. This group meets at the library the first Tuesday of each month at 11 a.m.

Another winter activity is called “Cabin Fever Days,” when all who wish may meet at a designated church for an afternoon of activities of your choice, including knitting, crocheting, quilting, hand sewing, and even playing cards. The church provides the luncheon and each participant is asked to bring a dish to pass. This group meets the last Thursday of each month. The next meeting will be Thursday, January 28, at Our Lady of the Snows. All are welcome.

The first soup and sandwich luncheon will be Thursday, January 21, at noon at First Union Church. There is no charge and all are welcome. This is something that First Union Church does each winter, and it offers an enjoyable time to chat with many people we don’t often see.
