St. Ignace

The temperatures are in the 30s, good for outdoor sports and heating bills.

Lana Lennington reports that there will be 4-H archery every Saturday at the St. Ignace Middle School cafeteria. Children age five to nine must be accompanied by a parent. Classes are open to persons age five through 19.

Stella Olmstead is doing well and often enjoys lunch at the Community Center with friends. How many folks recall her husband, Ralph, at the Standard gas station on West US-2 back in the 1960s? He always told good stories.

Don and Alice Howe have left for Arizona, where they will spend two months in a warmer climate.

Sherry Robinson is our new outreach coordinator for Mackinac County Community Health Access Coalition. This program helps people ages 19 to 64 arrange for medical

care if they have no insurance. If you fall into this category or would like more information, call the office at 643-7253. It is at 594 North State Street. Hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, and 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday.

Mary Ann McClelland and her husband, Tom, have lived in St. Ignace for five years and say they just love the area.

The St. Ignace Public Library will offer free movie night Thursday, January 21, at 6:15 p.m. “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs” will be shown. Preschool story time is every Thursday at the library at 3:30 p.m. There is no charge.

Suzanne Zinnkosko reports a program called “Books on Wheels” is successful in this area. Ms. Zinnkosko, Jennifer Solzidar, Robin Newberry, and Lora Walter are the wives of the some of the crew members of the Biscayne Bay. The program was started months ago, with books being distributed throughout St. Ignace, including Charters Cove, Mackinac Straits Hospital Long Term Care, and the senior citizens apartments on Lake Street. Anyone may donate books by calling Suzanne at (860) 865-1661.

Mary Swiderski would like people to know that there will be no Ice Follies show Sunday, January 24. It may be rescheduled in February.

Belated birthday wishes to Bekka Litzner, who celebrated her 14th birthday Saturday, January 16. Bekka is the daughter of Dan and Connie Litzner of St. Ignace.

Happy birthday to Krista Clement January 25, Carol Halberg and my aunt, Sady Beth Hocking, January 26, Harry Stockfish January 27, and Nicole Horn and Delores Marshall January 28.

Tabitha and Trevor Blair traveled to Detroit last weekend with their aunt and uncle, Dawn and Dustin Wilcox. They attended the monster truck show at Ford Field. En route they stopped to visit with Jim and Michelle McMillan and their daughters, Chloe and Chelsea, in Davison.

Chubby Checker’s performance at Kewadin Casinos in Sault Ste. Marie Saturday, January 16, drew a number of fans from St. Ignace, and some got up on stage. Dancing with the Twist and Shout legend were Arletta Pope, Cheryl Matelski, Rosie Sweeney, Veronica Rickley, Carl Andress, and Larry Leveille.
