Public Hearings Planned for Projects
The Mackinaw City Planning Commission will hold two public hearings Thursday, January 28, at 7 p.m. One hearing concerns the Lieghio Queens Limited Partnership's request for a special use permit to remove seven cabins and replace them with 10 new ones at the Comfort Suites in Mackinaw City on 701 South Huron Avenue. The second hearing is from Mackinaw Homes, which requested a special use permit to construct two employee housing units at 604 Third Street in Mackinaw City. The Lieghio family owns Mackinaw Homes.
Owner Enzo Liegho explained the cabins the partnership plans to remove are in good shape, but were constructed nearly 50 years ago. Replacing them with new ones is cheaper than completely renovating them. Some of the cabins will be moved to a different parcel of land in Mackinaw City and used for employee housing, rather than demolishing them, he said.
