Tax Preparation Volunteers Are Needed in Mackinac County
Local volunteers are needed to help low to moderate income families file 2009 taxes and claim the Earned Income Tax Credit. All training is completed through online training offered by the Internal Revenue Service, and it is scheduled to begin February 15.
The Mackinac County program operates through a partnership among the Department of Human Services, Michigan State University Extension, Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, and St. Ignace Area Hope Chest. Last year, 65 returns were completed for county residents and the number is expected to increase this year, reported Julie Waldron of Cheboygan County Department of Human Services.
Those who are interested in volunteering may contact Ms. Waldron at (231) 627-8539.
