Workshop Will Explore Youth Bullying Behavior
A workshop in Sault Ste. Marie will examine the dynamics of bullying behavior among youth Tuesday, March 2. The “Mean Girls” and “Real Boys” workshop will be hosted by the Chippewa County Michigan State University Extension 4-H Youth Development agency from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Registration is required.
This session will explore bullying through the lens of gender. It will examine ways in which the culture cultivates and reinforces “girlfighting,” “boy code,” and other gender-based bullying behaviors, and explore ways youth and adults can work together to respond to the issue. Highlights from research and practice will be presented, as well as video clips and interactive activities designed to deepen awareness and knowledge around these issues. Participants will leave with knowledge about resources available for exploring these topics with young people and adults.
Presenters are Janet Olsen, Karen Pace, and Dionardo Pizana of Michigan State University Extension. They have experience in developing and providing educational opportunities in the areas of youth development, violence prevention, anti-bullying, diversity, multiculturalism, and social justice education. The cost is $30. Registration deadline is Monday, February 22. For more information or to register, contact Andrea Caron of Chippewa County 4-H at 635- 6368.
