Indians, Bulldogs in SAC

The St. Ignace Saints wrestling team hosted a Straits Area Conference quad match with the Newberry Indians, Rudyard Bulldogs, and Mio Thunderbolts at the St. Ignace Middle School Wednesday, January 13.

Before the final regular season home match, Saints wrestlers and their parents were honored. The Saints notched a win over Newberry 60-12 and a 62-6 decision against Rudyard to improve their dual match record to 19-6.

St. Ignace: Galloway Thurston (160) and Joe Krause (135) registered 2-0 records with two pins. John Evashevski (140), Robert Sayles (189), and Billy Bentgen (103) were 2-0 with one pin. Richard Bentley (119), Kyle Fulgenzi (125), Louie Radecki (130), Caleb Litzner (145), and Joe Ostman (171) went 2-0. Dan St. Onge (152) was 1-1 with one pin, and Dakota McLennan (112) 1-1. The Saints didn't wrestle Mio and were open in the 215 and heavyweight divisions.

Rudyard: Brock Lewis led the Bulldogs with a 2-0 record, Chad Mesnard went 1-1, and Shane Aney, Sven Reichelt, Matt Zahara, and Kyle Brodiun were 0-2.

Dual Championship

The St. Ignace Saints captured the championship of the Sault Super Dual with a 4-0 perfect mark after defeating the host Blue Devils 54-23, Newberry 60-18, Cheboygan 54-24, and Sir James Dunn of Ontario 60-12 Saturday, January 16.

St. Ignace was led by Billy Bentgen (103), Richard Bentley (119), Louie Radecki (130), John Evashevski (140), Dan St. Onge (152), and Galloway Thurston (160), who posted undefeated records for the tournament.

St. Ignace will be at Onaway in a SAC match Wednesday, January 20, and compete in the Upper Peninsula Tournament in Marquette Saturday, January 23, and at Cheboygan for a SAC match Wednesday, January 27.
