Cedarville Trojans boys and girls basketball teams battled Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart Irish teams, meeting for competition at Gaylord St. Mary Saturday, January 16.
The Cedarville boys are ranked number five by the Associated Press, the Irish boys team is rated number seven, and the girls squad is number nine in Class D.
Cedarville and MPSH girls played in the Class D semifinals of the 2008 state tournaments with the Irish defeating the Trojans.
Cedarville Boys, Girls Fall
Cedarville boys were defeated 70-50 and the girls fell to the Mt. Pleasant team, but no statistics were available for the Trojans girls.
"Sacred Heart played tough defense and pushed the ball on offense. They are a very good team," said Trojans Assistant Coach Kurt Duncan. "We played three games in this week, and two games within 19 hours."
Chelsea Grove Cedarville
The Irish, members of the Mid State Activities Conference, took a 21-9 lead after the first eight minutes and increased the margin to 36- 19 at halftime with a 15-10 advantage in the second quarter.
Cedarville, 7-2 on the season, held an 18-14-scoring edge in the third quarter to cut the Irish lead to 50-37. The Mt. Pleasant team outscored the Trojans 20-13 in the final eight minutes to post the nonleague win.

Overtime Win Over Phoenix
The Cedarville boys squad posted an 82-80 non-conference overtime
win over the Flint International Academy Phoenix at John Duncan Gymnasium in Cedarville Friday, January 15.
"The Phoenix is a good team and one of the best programs we will face this season," said Trojans Coach Dave Duncan.
The Trojans trailed for most of the game, which included 16-9 after the first eight minutes, but Cedarville outscored the Phoenix 23-19 in the second quarter to slice the Academy’s lead to 35-32 at halftime.
The Flint school took a 55-51 lead into the fourth period with a 20- 19-scoring edge in the third quarter before Cedarville sent the game into overtime with a 19-15 advantage in the final eight minutes.
During the four-minute overtime period, Jordan Baker scored four, Andrew Jaroche and Tyler Kanitz three each, and Matt Schlosser two as the Trojans outscored the Phoenix 12-10 to complete the come-from-behind win.

Trojans Edge Rams
In Road Contest
The Cedarville Trojans edged out the Harbor Springs Rams 63-59 during a road non-conference game Tuesday, January 12.
The Trojans held a 24-23-scoring edge at halftime and outscored the Rams 39-36 in the second half to ice the win.
Trojans statistics: Andrew Jaroche, 19 points; Tyler Kanitz, 14 points; Jordan Baker, 11 points; Connor McLeod, 10 points; Zach McFarlane, seven points; Matt Schlosser, two points.
Cedarville Girls Fall to Rams
Cedarville and Harbor Springs battled to a 41-41 score after three quarters before the host Rams outscored the Trojans 15-9 in the final eight minutes to clinch the non-conference win Wednesday, January 13.
"The girls played hard and we continue to improve as a team with each game," said Coach Sonja Duncan.
In the first three quarters, both teams scored 19 points in the first eight minutes and 11 in the second quarter for a 30-30-halftime score. Both scored 11 points in the third quarter before Harbor Springs held a 16-point advantage in the final eight minutes.

The Cedarville Trojans defeated Flint International Academy 90-89 in overtime Friday, January 15, and Harbor Springs 91-89 Tuesday, January 12.
