Interpreters Make a Bang at St. Ignace School

Hands quickly slap against ears and faces crinkle as the boom from the shoulder mounted cannon fills the air outside St. Ignace Elementary School Monday, January 25. Students in second grade classrooms watch the weapon firing by Colonial Michilimackinac lead interpreter Jim Evans, who portrays an 18th century British soldier. The demonstration is part of the educational outreach program offered to about 8,000 students around the state each year by interpreters Dennis Havlena, LeeAnn Ewer, and Mr. Evans of Mackinac State Historic Parks.
