Lofgren Is U.S. Coast Guard Employee of the Month

Seaman Marc Lofgren Seaman Marc Lofgren Seaman Marc Lofgren of St. Ignace has been named United States Coast Guard Employee of the Month for December.

Seaman Lofgren’s knowledge on station weapons has been an asset to the unit and its preparations for Mounted Automatic Weapons training in Ft. Knox, Kentucky, his supervisors said. He spent several hours using his weapons knowledge to help train all members for upcoming evaluations that are critical to mission readiness.

He is eager to help his shipmates with their qualifications, his supervisor reports, and his help is sought with training and with troubleshooting computer problems.

Seaman Lofgren has spent many hours of his personal time designing and completing the station’s Web site. The Web site was a project in the works for two years and he completed it in three weeks.

In addition, he stayed late on several occasions to help with the completion of the station’s new crew lounge.

He joined the United States Coast Guard in January 2009, and came to St. Ignace in March 2009, his first duty station.

In his spare time, Seaman Lofgren enjoys kayaking and hiking in the Straits area and attending church services and events with other members of the Straits Evangelical Free Church. He also likes to explore towns in the surrounding area for bookstores, cafes, and outdoor recreation opportunities.
