Regina Kemp of Kinross Hired as New St. Ignace Librarian

Regina Kemp was hired to be the librarian the St. Ignace Public Library by the library board Tuesday, January 26. She was introduced to the city council at its meeting Monday, February 1. Regina Kemp, currently a library clerk at Bayliss Public Library in Sault Ste. Marie, will start work as the head librarian in St. Ignace in February. She was hired by the city's library board Tuesday, January 26.

Cindy Patten, who has been the librarian in St. Ignace for 20 years, will help train Mrs. Kemp when she arrives before leaving the position Friday, February 26.

Mrs. Kemp lives in Kinross with her husband, Eric, and children, Isaac, 15, and Aquene, 14. Mr. and Mrs. Kemp also have two sons attending college nearby, Chris, 24, in Brimley, and Aaron, 18, in Petoskey.

She holds an Associate's degree in computer science and a bachelor's degree in liberal studies from Lake Superior State University and, in May, hopes to earn her Master's degree in library and information science from University of Wisconsin Milwaukee.

Mrs. Kemp was selected by the library board from a field of 13 applicants, of which five were interviewed. Serving on the city's library board are Martha Sjogren, Renee Vonderwerth, Margaret Peacock, Judy Gross, Mary Maurer, Jim Clapperton, and Connie Litzner, of St. Ignace.
