Hockey players and fans will gather in St. Ignace Friday, February 19, through Sunday, February 21, for the U.P. Pond Hockey Championship. Admission is free to the tournament games for spectators and to the heated beer and concessions tent.

Friday evening the Detroit Red Wings Alumni will compete with last years Pond Hockey Champions in an exhibition game at Little Bear East Arena. Tickets are $10 and are available at three locations: Little Bear East Ice Arena, St. Ignace Visitors Bureau, and the St. Ignace Chamber of Commerce. Friday, Saturday and Sunday will feature hockey action on the ice of Lake Huron on Moran Bay, downtown St. Ignace. Eighteen rinks will be smoothed by a Zamboni for fast skating action.

The tournaments will be split by age into six divisions. Some divisions are ranked by skill. Team entries are $325 for each sixperson team. Players must be 21 or older to register; contact the Visitors Bureau or Chamber of Commerce. The event will conclude Sunday afternoon with the awarding of the Championship Cups.

Festivities include heated beer and concessions tent on the ice with live musical entertainment Friday and Saturday, and ice bowling for adults Saturday. Special celebrity guest in the tent Saturday will be Detroit Red Wings star Joey Kocur, who will be here for autographs and book signings.
