James Henderson
James Newton Henderson, 74, of Pickford Township, served in the United States Air Force before beginning a career with the Department of Defense. Mr. Henderson died Friday, January 22, 2010, at War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie.
He was born October 18, 1935, in Anniston, Alabama, the son of William Newton and Alice Maude (nee Billingsley) Henderson.
Mr. Henderson grew up in Alabama. He joined the Air Force at age 18 and served his country for 20 years. After his military service, he worked for the Department of Defense for 20 years.
He married Joyce Marion (nee Crawford) Henderson June 23, 1973.
He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 3676 in Sault Ste. Marie. He was also a member of Masonic Bethel Lodge 358 in Sault Ste. Marie, Sault Shriners, and Scottish Rite of Marquette.
Mr. Henderson enjoyed hunting, fishing, and barbecue cooking.
He is survived by his wife, three sons and their families, William Mark and Cindy Henderson of Valencia, California, Stephen and Angie Henderson of Greer, South Carolina, and James Henderson of Duncan, South Carolina; two granddaughters, Laurel Henderson and Lindsay Henderson. Also surviving are two sisters, Nancy McLeod and Joy Howell, both of Mobile, Alabama; a brother and his family, Gary and Karlene Crawford of Gaylord, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mr. Henderson was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Thomas Henderson, and two brothers, Joseph Henderson and Ronald Henderson.
Services were Wednesday, January 27, at Reamer Galer Funeral Home in Pickford. Visitation was from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. A Masonic Memorial began at 3 p.m. followed by a funeral with military honors.
