Margaret Wilhelm Margaret Wilhelm Margaret Josephine Wilhelm, 94, of St. Ignace, formerly of Caseville, died Wednesday, January 27, 2010, at Cedar Cove Assistant Living in Cedarville.

She was born in Detroit September 8, 1915, to Edmond and Edith (nee Chamberlain) Donohue, a family of strong Irish and English descent.

She attended school at St. Gabriels in Detroit, and during her teen years, the family moved to Sylvan Lake. There she met and married Joseph Arthur Wilhelm February 1, 1939, at St. Vincent dePaul Church in Pontiac.

Mrs. Wilhelm worked for Pontiac Motors and the Pontiac School System, where friends said she was known as a giving volunteer. The family moved to Caseville, where Mrs. Wilhelm was the president of the library club, president of the Eagles Auxiliary, and president of the farm and garden organization. She was active in the Order of St. Francis and Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church, and spent many hours helping the Altar Society.

She moved to St. Ignace 18 years ago to be near family, and she was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church. She also volunteered at the Ojibwa Museum in St. Ignace.

Her daughters remember her making paper dolls, sewing stuffed dolls out of socks, and lavishly decorating the house for all holidays. She was an accomplished artist, and her family members have watercolor paintings, small clay sculptures, and drawings she made.

She loved the outdoors, and enjoyed going deer hunting, but never took a gun. She just went to spend time outdoors with her husband, friends recall. Mrs. Wilhelm enjoyed playing board games with her grandchildren. She was known by friends for her sweet smile.

She is survived by four daughters and their families, Jo and Gordon Kurlonko of Hessel, Mary Bailof of Union Lake, Elizabeth and Michael Silta of AuTrain, Marion Danielson of St. Ignace; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Mrs. Wilhelm was preceded in death by her husband, who died in 1986; a daughter who died in infancy, Catherine Mary; four siblings, Edmond, Robert, Patricia, and Marion, and two sons-in-law, Joseph Bailog and David Danielson.

Services were Saturday, January 30, at noon at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in St. Ignace with Father Pawel Mecwel and Deacon Tom McCleland officiating. Visitation was at the church at 11 a.m.

Burial is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, May 22, in St. Roch Cemetery in Caseville next to her husband.

Dodson Funeral Home of St. Ignace assisted the family with arrangements.
