St. Onge, Radecki Are Named LaSalle’s Students of the Month

Dan St. Onge Dan St. Onge Dan St. Onge and Samantha Radecki have been named students of the month for January at LaSalle High School.

Dan St. Onge

Senior Dan St. Onge is the son of Fred and Ann Smith of St. Ignace. Mr. St. Onge has a 2.7 grade point average. His classes include senior English, anatomy, advanced physical education, senior social studies, and art. He helps Emily Fullerton as an aide in her physical education class, in addition to being a student mentor for an elementary student in Phyllis Chan’s class.

“Mr. Clyde O’Rourke and Mrs. Elaine MacDonald were my most influential teachers. They never gave up on me and always told me that I could do whatever I wanted with my life, as long as I put the work into it,” said Mr. St. Onge.

His teachers report he is a hard working student and a leader in the school. Younger students look up to him as a role model.

Samantha Radecki Samantha Radecki In addition to classroom activities, he has been involved in many athletic activities, earning varsity letters in football, wrestling, and track.

He was selected to be a co-captain on this year’s wrestling team. Last year, he earned the honor of most improved wrestler on the team. This year, he was voted to be on the All Straits Area Conference football team.

He was selected by his classmates to be a king candidate for LaSalle’s Court Warming Ceremony this year.

His favorite subject is science, and he plans to attend college to pursue a career in the science field.

Samantha Radecki Samantha Radecki, daughter of Ed and Laurie Radecki of St. Ignace, is a senior at LaSalle High School. Miss Radecki has a 3.85 grade point average based on a four-point scale. Throughout high school she has taken a college preparatory curriculum. Her class schedule includes honors English, calculus, physics, anatomy/physiology, art, senior social studies, and band. Her favorite classes are art, band, and calculus.

She has a smile that reflects her positive attitude, her teachers report, and she is a leader among her school peers. Last year, she was nominated and selected by the faculty to be a member of the National Honor Society. As a member, she has volunteered many hours toward various service projects, including Red Cross blood drives. She has served as a student mentor for an elementary student.

She has qualified each year for the LaSalle Academic Award and has been invited each year to the Just Desserts Academic Banquet.

“All of my teachers have been influential, each in a different way,” said Miss Radecki.

She has been active in extracurricular activities, earning varsity letters in basketball, track, cross country, and dance. She was the drum major for the marching band and a member of the Europe Club. She helps with Junior Saints basketball on Saturday mornings. She enjoys skiing.

Miss Radecki was voted most improved on the cross country team, earned the defensive player award in basketball, and was the most valuable player in track. She earned All State Honors at the 2009 MHSAA Track Finals with a first-place finish in the long jump.

Her goal next year is to attend Michigan State University, where she plans to study journalism.
