     Senior John Evashevski set new LaSalle High School wrestling school record with his 163rd career win after posting two victories during the quadrangular meet at Cheboygan Wednesday, January 27, and tied the consecutive win total of 37 during the Northern Michigan Wrestling Championship (NMWC) at Gaylord High School Saturday, January 30.

Panthers Remain Perfect In EUPC With Home Win
      The Pickford Panthers remain undefeated in the Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference after a 74- 43 home win over the Cedarville Trojans Thursday, January 28. The Panthers, 5-0 in the EUPC and 10-4 overall, were playing without Paul Griffin as the firstyear coach had knee surgery. Josh Galarowic, Pickford junior varsity coach, filled in as varsity coach.

     Sophomore Morgan MacArthur scored her second consecutive double/ double with 21 points and 13 rebounds to lift the Engadine Eagles to a 59-24 road non-conference win over the Alanson Vikings Monday, January 25.

Eagles Fall to Bays In EUPC Match-up
      The Engadine Eagles dropped a 53-42 Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference road decision to the Brimley Bays Saturday, January 30. The second half made the difference as the Eagles held a 12- 11-scoring edge after the first eight minutes and led 22-20 at halftime with a 10-9 margin in the second quarter.

Bulldogs Defeat Trojans; Jeffreys Scores 30 Points
      Senior Emily Jeffreys scored 30 points to lead the Rudyard Bulldogs to a 72-61 road non-conference win over the Cedarville Trojans Tuesday, January 26. Rudyard held a two-point lead going into the fourth quarter, but the Bulldogs outscored the Cedarville Trojans 26-17 en route to the win.

Second Quarter Key To Raiders Win Over HLC
      The DeTour Raiders trailed after the first eight minutes, but held an 11-point advantage in the second quarter en route to a 53-43 road non-conference win over the Harbor Light Christian (HLC) Swordsmen Monday, January 25. The Swordsmen held a 13-12- scoring edge after the opening period before the Raiders outscored HLC 15-4 in the second quarter for a 27-17-halftime lead.

Mackinac Island Girls Remain Perfect in NLL
     The Mackinac Island Lakers girls basketball team remains undefeated in the Northern Lights League (NLL) after a 51-36 home win over the Grand Marais Polar Bears Friday, January 29. Although the Lakers and Polar Bears are original members of the NLL and have competed for more than 30 years, the girls programs are only entering their third season.

     The Mackinac Island Lakers boys were outscored 30-21 in the second half that led to a 61-53 Northern Lights League setback to the Grand Marais Polar Bears Friday, January 29. The Lakers led 16-14 after the first eight minutes and still maintained a 32- 31 scoring edge at halftime after the Polar Bears held a 17-16 margin in the second quarter.

Trojans Roll Past Panthers In EUPC Match-up
      Cedarville trailed by five points after the first quarter, but the Trojans turned up the offensive burners to defeat the Pickford Panthers 88-52 during an Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference (EUPC) win at John Duncan Gymnasium in Cedarville Friday, January 29. "We sputtered in the first quarter, but shot the ball better in the final three quarters," said Trojans Coach Dave Duncan.

Rudyard Seniors Jeffreys, Hesselink Reach Milestones
      Rudyard High School seniors Emily Jeffreys and Arik Hesselink have reached career milestones after scoring 1,000 points during the 2009-2010 basketball season. Scoring 1,000 career points doesn't happen on a regular basis. Having two players from the same school reach the mark in the same season is very unusual. The duo has played at the varsity level for four years.

The Eagles downed the Brimley Bays 62-57 for their first Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference (EUPC) decision during home contest Friday, January 29.
