Mackinac Island Girls Remain Perfect in NLL
The Mackinac Island Lakers girls basketball team remains undefeated in the Northern Lights League (NLL) after a 51-36 home win over the Grand Marais Polar Bears Friday, January 29.

Although the Lakers and Polar Bears are original members of the NLL and have competed for more than 30 years, the girls programs are only entering their third season.
Mackinac Island has a key weekend league series at Beaver Island Friday, February 5, and Saturday, February 6. Both the Lakers and the Islanders are undefeated in the conference.
"The girls continue to play hard. This weekend at Beaver Island is huge for this team," said Lakers Coach Mary Patay.
The Lakers, 7-0 in the league and 10-2 overall, held a 13-6-scoring edge after the first eight minutes and increased the lead to 37- 14 at halftime with a 24-8 margin in the second quarter.
Grand Marais outscored Mackinac Island 22-14 in the second half to slice the Lakers final margin to 15 points.
