Mason, Adams Buildings To Be Renovated in Sault Ste. Marie

A project called Park Place City Center has been planned at the Masonic and Adams buildings on the corner of Spruce and Ashmun streets in Sault Ste. Marie, which were purchased by Haan Development Company, the Harbor Springs company announced January 18.

The two buildings will be renovated to accommodate 24 housing units as well as approximately 7,500 square feet of commercial retail and office space. All financing has been secured for this historical renovation project.

The renovation of the historic building is financed using Brownfield tax credits, state historical credits, federal historical credits, Michigan State Housing Development Authority financing, and Housing and Urban Development funds.

Also involved in the project are Michigan Historical Preservation Network, U.P. Engineering and Architecture, Oakwood Construction Company, Tax Credit Capital, and Stearns Bank.

Businesses housed in the building, Pro Sports and Personal Touch, will remain open during the renovation period, along with Thomas Robinson, D.D.S., located above Pro Sports. Other local businesses will be recruited to occupy the remaining available commercial space.
