Volunteers Teach St. Ignace Youth Wrestling, Yoga
At right: Volunteer Rich Cullen of St. Ignace demonstrates wrestling moves with sixth grader Daniel Marsh Thursday morning, January 21, at the St. Ignace elementary school gymnasium. Other sixth-grade students watching the demonstration are (from left) Haley Dodds, Kyle O'Brien, Kameron Fulgenzi, Ben Freier (seated), and Michaela North. Mr. Cullen and St. Ignace Recreation Director Scott Marshall taught a week's worth of wrestling to middle school students each morning as part of the physical education program. Yoga classes will also be offered to middle school students the week of January 25-29.

Kathy Junglas (pictured at the far right) runs a local yoga studio and volunteered to teach basic skills to middle school girls each morning of that week. Students pictured are (foreground, from left) Meghan Casey, Aryianna Dickensheets; (first row) Taylor Causley, Olivia Wyers, Whitney Matson, Erisa Crystal, Morgan Peterson, and Sharman Colegrove. Mrs. Junglas said as well as providing stress relief and more limber muscles, yoga positions like the "warrior" can help inspire more confidence. Physical education teacher Emily Fullerton said she asked Mrs. Junglas to come in to provide students with a wider variety of educational offerings at the school. - Login to post comments
