John Patterson
Born August 24, 1921, in Yatesboro, Pennsylvania, he was the son of John and Catherine (nee Murray) Patterson.
Mr. Patterson was a graduate of Rural Valley High School and attended Penn State University for two years. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army until his honorable discharge February 14, 1946.
He married Dorothy Hughes in Wyandotte September 18, 1948. He worked as a metallurgist at Great Lakes Steel in Ecorse until his retirement in 1981.
He had been a seasonal resident of Big Manistique Lake since 1972 and, following his retirement, permanently resided on the lake since 1982. His hobbies included fishing, lawn mowing, and casino gaming.
Mr. Patterson is survived by four children and their families, Cathy and Terry Buel of Clinton Township, Sharon Patterson of Lincoln Park, John Jay and Cindi Patterson of Brownstown, and Stephen and Dawn Patterson of South Lyon; seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, who died June 13, 2006; two brothers, and two sisters.
Graveside services will be held in the spring at the West Lakefield Township Cemetery with Pastor Nancy Barkat of the First Presbyterian Church in Newberry officiating.
Beaulieu Funeral Home in Newberry is assisting the family with arrangements.
