Three Wrestlers Win Titles; Saints Finish 2nd at SAC

Senior John Evashevski (140) and freshmen Galloway Thurston (160) and Joe Ostman (171) captured individual championships with 2-0 records and the St. Ignace Saints finished second during the Straits Area Conference Wrestling Tournament at Rogers City Saturday, February 6.
The host Hurons won the league title, followed by St. Ignace, Mio, Onaway, Cheboygan, Rudyard, Sault Ste. Marie, and Newberry.
Placing second for the Saints were Louie Radecki (130) and Joe Krause (135) with 2-1 records and Dan St. Onge (152) at 1-1. Finishing third were Billy Bentgen (103) at 3-1 and Robert Sayles (189) with a 2-1 mark. Richard Bentley (119) took fourth at 1-2.

John Evashevski set a new LaSalle High School record with his 39th consecutive win, breaking the mark that was held by Billy Rickley (37) during a quadrangular meet at Newberry High School Wednesday, February 3.
Dan St. Onge
St. Ignace defeated the Sault Ste. Marie Blue Devils 60-15 and the Rudyard Bulldogs 52-13.
Seven wrestlers finished the meet with 2-0 records, including Billy Bentgen (103), Dakota McLennan (112), Richard Bentley (119), Joe Krause (135), John Evashevski (140), Caleb Litzner (145), and Joe Ostman (171).
Levi Thompson (130) won his varsity match and posted a 1-1 mark, along with William Pechta (125), Dan St. Onge
152), Galloway Thurston (160), and Robert Sayles (189).
Newberry To Host
Team Districts
Newberry will host the Division 4 team districts and will wrestle St. Ignace while Rogers City and Rudyard will battle in the opening round at 6 p.m. The two winners will compete for the championship Thursday, February 11.

Districts
LaSalle High School will host the Division 4 individual districts with wrestling scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, February 13.
The host Saints along with Rudyard, Newberry, Manistique, West Iron County, Gwinn, Munising, Iron Mountain, and Norway from the Upper Peninsula and Onaway, Rogers City, Mancelona, Boyne City, and Charlevoix from the Lower Peninsula will compete for the top four places in the 14 weight classes that will advance to the regionals.
